Halloween Games For #Physed
by Joey Feith
Halloween is upon us!
I thought I’d share a few Halloween games that I will be playing with my students this year. Click each image to download the PDF.
Vampires is a fun blindfold game that is a blast to play at this time of the year. As with all blindfold games, make sure you make your safety guidelines very clear and get ready for some screams, laughs, and fun!
Precious is another blindfold game that I like playing with my students at Halloween. The students get such a kick out of watching their peers wander around the gym while blindfolded. Precious gets easier to find not only because there are more students forming it, but also because the amount of giggling going on makes it easier to find!
Giants, Elves, & Wizards
Although my students know the game of Giants, Elves, & Wizards, I’ll usually change the name up for Halloween (e.g. “Witches, Wizards, and Warlocks”, “Ghosts, Ghouls, and Goblins”, etc)
Star Wars Tag
I’m going to go ahead and guess that more than a few students will be donning Star Wars-themed costumes this year! The only thing better than getting to play Star Wars Tag in PE class is getting to play Star Wars Tag in PE class while wearing a Stormtrooper costume! (True story: that actually happened to one of my students a few years back and to this day he still talks about it!)
Halloween Tag is a fun chasing a fleeing game that gets more exciting with each new build. Just like Star Wars Tag, it’s a fun game to get students involved by having them suggest new roles and responsibilities with each new build.
Thriller Line Dance
Moving away from games, another Halloween activity I like to bust out at this time of the year is the Thriller Line Dance. In my curriculum, most of my grades are in dance units right around halloween, so the timing couldn’t be better. Check out Alex O’Brien‘s easy to follow instructions in the video above. If you have a larger group and would like to have everyone put on a show, check out Teri Elliott‘s Thriller Troup below.
So those are a few of the games and activities I have lined up for this year’s Halloween PE lessons! I’d love to hear any games you are playing in your gym during this spooky time of the year. Feel free to share in the comments below!
If you would like to find more games, be sure to check out the Standards-Based Games Database!
Happy Halloween everyone! ?
