#Fields2013 Social Bingo!

I was lucky enough to be selected to present at the 2013 MPETA-PHE Canada National Conference that will be taking place in Winnipeg, Manitoba. This will be my third PHE Canada National Conference, and I’m really excited to be able to be there.

Although I love interacting with teachers on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and YouTube… there’s nothing that beats getting to hang out with physical educators in person.

I love the social aspect of these conferences. I’ve always found that it’s in the informal chats at the hotel bar or at the official socials where I learn the most from fellow educators. That’s why I decided that I wanted to help everyone that will be at the #Fields2013 Conference be a little more social so that they can get the most out of their experience.

#Fields2013 Social Bingo

Although I originally wanted to host a social event, I quickly learned that the hard-working team at MPETA already have a bunch of activities in store for the conference attendees. So, I went back to the drawing board and came up with an idea that would help add a social layer to all of the events that will be taking place in Winnipeg. I call it #Fields2013 Social Bingo. Here’s how it works:

I created a Bingo card that has 25 spaces.

Social Bingo

The goal of the game is to try to get “Bingo” by checking off 5 spaces in a row (horizontally, vertically, or diagonally). You get to check off a space once you complete the social challenge associated to that space. The challenges can be found on the back of the card:

#Fields2013 Social Bingo Guidelines (I can’t call these rules…)

1. The #Fields2013 Social Bingo challenge starts the second you arrive at the conference and ends on your last day of the conference.
2. Each accomplished challenge must be a unique event (e.g. you can’t sing a Neil Young song with someone from Nova Scotia who is wearing a Blue Bombers jersey and check off three spaces).
3. For all of the “introduce yourself” challenges, you NEED TO INTRODUCE YOURSELF. You can’t just spot a bunch of wild Albertans and check off that square. Go say hi!
4. This isn’t really a rule. I just wanted to be ultra-Canadian and say sorry for the plugs to this site I included in the Bingo Card. Can you blame me? To make it up to you, I’ll make sure to where my Rethink PE shirt at the conference so you can check that square off (#sneakyplug).

Where do I download my card?

You can download your #Fields2013 Social Bingo card here.

If you use Twitter, I’ve also made an interactive version of the card so that you can tweet out your accomplishments as you accomplish them. Just bookmark that page to your device’s homescreen for easy access during the conference (you’ll also find my workshop’s support materials there on the Friday of the conference).

So that’s it. I hope you find this as fun as I do. I cannot wait to meet so many of you in Winnipeg!

Happy Teaching!
